Tara Vasdani is the Principal Lawyer and Founder of Remote Law Canada. In 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, she has been nominated for Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada. From 2020 to 2024, she has been awarded the Employment Law Firm of the Year Award, by Canada's Prestige Awards. In 2022, Tara has been named a LinkedIn Top Voice in Remote Work, and in 2021, she was recognized as one of the Top 10 Remote Work Advocates and Leaders in North America. In 2024, Tara has been named Female Trailblazer of the Year (Private Practice) by the Canadian Law Awards.

Prior to founding Remote Law Canada, Tara worked as a civil, subrogation and employment litigator on Bay Street. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2017, but was recognized globally by January 2018, as the first Canadian lawyer to serve a Statement of Claim using the popular social media app, Instagram. Tara’s innovative approach to civil litigation was quickly endorsed by the legal community, and she was featured in Above the Law, Globe Legal Post, Droit-Inc., on CBC, and profiled on the front page of the Law Times. In 2020, Tara has joined Microsoft, Uber, FlexJobs, Distribute Consulting, and many others in advocating for remote work arrangements. In 2020, she has been awarded a Top 10 Remote Work Advocate and Leader by AAE, nominated for RBC's 'Women of Influence', nominated for the WomenTech Network's Global Awards in the Global AI Inclusion and Global Technology Leadership categories, and as a 'Woman of Inspiration' to the Universal Womens' Network.

Tara is dedicated to advocating for her clients, from the initial consultation stage, through to negotiations, and if necessary, trial - using efficiency, legal technology, and solid litigation experience. She has successfully appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal, the Ministry of Labour, the Financial Services Tribunal, the Licensed Appeal Tribunal, the Social Security Tribunal, and the Provincial Offences Court. 

 

Tara advises both employers and employees in wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, human rights claims, contract negotiations, and other employment-related disputes, and has represented all national insurers in subrogation-related matters such as construction litigation and contractor’s negligence, property damage, occupier and product liability, and contractual disputes. In addition, Tara has assisted clients in personal injury, debt enforcement, cryptocurrency, shareholder and commercial disputes, as well as in bankruptcy proceedings.

Prior to founding Remote Law Canada, Tara worked for large downtown boutique law firms where she carried complex civil litigation files. She has successfully represented clients through all stages of the litigation process. In addition, Tara writes quarterly for the national publications: Canadian Lawyer, The Lawyer’s Daily, and HR Insider, on artificial intelligence and the law, employment-related trends such as escalating reasonable notice periods, and legislative developments.

Tara earned two law degrees, both common law and civil law, from the University of Ottawa in 2016, entirely in French. As one of 19 students selected to obtain two law degrees in three years, Tara is well-versed in both Canadian jurisdictions, and today is fluently bilingual, as well as qualified to speak to clients across Canada.

Tara completed her articles at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in downtown Ottawa. While doing so, she wrote a book critiquing the federal government’s ‘CSIS’ Bill, which was later published by the Éditions Universitaires Européens in 2017.

​

Tara earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts from York University in 2013, in Law and Society and Political Science. In 2012, she spent a semester studying Greek Civil Law in Thessaloniki, Greece.

​

While obtaining her J.D. and LL.L., Tara worked for leading legal research corporation, LexisNexis Canada. As a result, she is qualified to represent clients with legal needs ranging from administrative law, contract law, real estate, estates, and various other types of litigation.
